Earthfire Institute is a place to experience
the profound connection between all life. Our 40-acre wildlife sanctuary, nestled in the Yellowstone-to-Yukon Wildlife Corridor, is a loving home to wild animals that can never be released into the wild, and a refuge for reflecting—in their company—on how to create a truly sustainable world.

We could say we live in Tetonia, Idaho but that is a human overlay onto the land. We are part of the Rocky Mountain ecosystem that stretches 2000 miles to the north and includes the Yellowstone to Yukon Wildlife Corridor, an uninterrupted pathway along which plants and animals can still migrate over time, keeping their genes flowing and their species strong. It is the last best corridor of its kind in the world. Earthfire’s animals are representatives of the wildlife that populate the corridor.

A finger of that vast corridor comes down off the Jedediah Smith wilderness area and Bridger national forest, running through our land as a band of cottonwoods and aspens along South Leigh Creek, down to the Teton River and across the wide valley up to the Big Hole Mountains on the other side. It is the last best wildlife corridor in the valley.

Up on the sagebrush flats of the property, we built an 18 x30 foot log cabin that is where we live. It looks out over our animals, and beyond them across the sagebrush vistas to an uninterrupted view of the magnificent jagged snow capped peaks of the Grand Tetons, their lower flanks swathed in evergreen forest.
